No, I couldn’t stay out of the mountains and off the trails very long. I chose Garfield as an easier first hike back in the Whites due to reasonably easy grades (well except for that last .2 mile, but that’s not much).
It was a beautiful and cool morning and the woods were quiet. It was nice to have a little solitude. I am not used to large groups of people yet after the AT hike, so it was nice to be in the woods. I even saw a deer in the first couple of miles.
The summit was clear, but windy and I enjoyed sitting in the lee of the old stone foundation looking at all the familiar peaks and feeling like I was back at home.
