Appalachian Trail, Week 1, 4.7-13.15

The first week on the Appalachian Trail has been fun, interesting, and an adventure.  I started at Amicalola Falls State Park on the approach trail and today, a week later, will cross the state line between Georgia and North Carolina.

I’ve met many people along the way, some only once, and others that I hike with daily.  All of them are fun to be around and we all share the goal of hiking northward.

The forest and trails here are different, but yet familiar in a way.  There is no snow, and the leaves are just starting to appear.  Spring is on the way!

Here are a few photos from the first week on the trail.

Ready to go at the arch ar Amicalola Falls State Park.

The plaque and first white blaze on Springer Mtn.

Amicalola Falls and some up of the many steps to the top.

Lots of small wildflowers are blooming aling the side of the trail. I’ve seen them every day.

Garter snake that I stepped right over without realizing it.

The outfitter at Neel Gap, the first milestone on the trail, about 30 miles into the journey.

On top of Blood Mountain, right before the descent to Neel Gap.

The breezeway at Neel Gap, the only place where the trail goes through a building.
